Braved a simple song

And a red, red ribbon

With a song she walked along the shore

So when the girl from County Cay came round
A-singing by the bay
I grabbed my coat and ran right down
And found her on the quay
The ribbon that she wore was waving
With the wind that day
As she sang, I saw the ribbon blow away

Her voice was like that ribbon
Flowing wild and free
And when her song was over
I was sad as I could be
With my head hung low, I turned to go
And there upon the shore
Was the red, red ribbon that she wore

I turned and ran to catch her
And found that she had gone
So I took that ribbon home with me
And waited for the dawn
Now every day I wait to hear her sing just like before
Wearing that red, red ribbon once more
It was a red, red ribbon she wore
