about
My fourth evil plan stars Nick and Joanne.
lyrics
On the poor side of town where each day brings you down
And it does no good to cry
So you take what you need ‘cause you’ve got mouths to feed
And you’ve got no time to ask why
Life is hard, or so they say
But you’ll be fine, you’ve got your plan
For you, there’s hope and salvation
But not for Nick and Joanne
Nick was fine doing time, but then he got out
And that’s when all the trouble began
He was out on the prowl like some hungry horned owl
On the night he hooked up with Joanne
She was desperate and low, with two kids in tow
And a thirst for liquor and speed
They met at a bar and they left in his car
With some blow and a bag of weed
Life is hard, or so they say
But you can change the channel on demand
For you it’s just another movie
But it’s real for Nick and Joanne
Once they blew through their stash and they ran out of cash
They both promised to go straight
“For the kids, we should try”—“I’ll find work”—“I’ll get dry”
Tie the knot before it’s too late
They were both so sincere, but soon it was clear
That their vows were just too hard to keep
With no work to be found, they both felt they would drown
In over their heads so deep
Nick said, “I’ve got a plan, I know a man
In a month I can make ten grand
Once a week make a drop, in a few months I’ll stop
It’s just business, supply and demand”
Well Joanne cracked a smile, she thought for a while,
“What if I came along for the ride?
With the kids in the back and a trunk full of smack
Looking like we’ve got nothing to hide?”
Life is hard, or so they say
We dress it up the best we can
We all put our best face forward
Just like Nick and Joanne
Life is hard, or so they say
You read your cards, you play your hand
“For me it’s kings”—“I’ve got aces”
But it’s jokers for Nick and Joanne
They were out on the road with an extra full load
One more drop and they’d be set
They were rolling along with the radio on
When the rear left tire went flat
Nick stepped out of the car to retrieve the spare tire
When he got to the trunk he froze:
Up pulled a cop, and he came to a stop
I guess that’s the way it goes
The cop said, “I’ll help you home, I’ve got two of my own
You remind me of my troubled youth”
He said, “Open the trunk,” as Nick’s heart sunk
And Joanne planned to hide the truth
Life is hard, or so they say
Blood is thicker than a wedding band
For the kids, she’ll say what she has to
So it’s the end of Nick and Joanne
Life is hard, or so they say
You gotta face the music even if you hate the band
Some songs end where they started
Just like Nick and Joanne
